A dental implant, sometimes better known as an endosseous implant or fixture, is a surgical component that interfaces with the bone of the jaw or skull to support a dental prosthesis such as a crown, bridge, denture, facial prosthesis or to act as an orthodontic anchor. Most implants connect with other components in order to function. A common component is an abutment which can provide the connection to a dental prosthesis.

DO I IN NEED A DENTAL IMPLANT?

We use an implant to retain facial prosthetics, artificial teeth or as an anchor point for orthodontics. When replacing missing teeth, a dental implant can assist a dental prosthesis. Modern dental implants make use of osseointegration, the biologic process where bone fuses tightly to the surface of specific materials such as some ceramics or titanium.
